Week 14 joseph gallegos

This was a couple weeks ago, the light being kinda magenta is why I took the photo. Also the light being shined through the glass, or reflected off the glass kinda gave it a feeling or aesthetic that is I guess associated with old style Catholic churches, which is what this church was. It adds a sort of sacredness or something like that to all the paintings and murals throughout the church.

Michael O'Mahony Week 12

I believe I missed either week 12's lighting post so here's me making up for that. I really love this image because of all the green foliage we have wrapping around our character, and that the green has many tones and dimensions.  Our character is fortunately well lit from the front even with the bright day sky behind him, but shaded enough to stand out and give the feeling that you're both in this green vine-y hearth. I love how the vines at the top of the image roll from sunlit to untouched darkness. What could he be pondering?

Michael O'Mahony post #14

Pigeons are basically rats of the sky, and as much as they are entitled fools, they are a part of our worlds ecosystem and rely heavily on good will of tourists. This photo tries to capture that, the pigeons are on the hunt, prowling in the shady walks of the Notre Dame and looking for their next handout. The lighting and color bring your eyes up to the top of the image, but the focus pulls you back down, and a flickering between the two is the illusion I hope to cast with this image.

Christina Antolin Week 14

For this week I decided to use this photo I took the weekend of tech for The Unseen Hand. I was running up and down from the basement to all over the theater. During one of those runs down I was stopped by how this light on the spiral staircase looked I though it looked so cool that I had to take a moment to capture it. The lighting for this image I personally believe looks professional almost as if someone focused a light to hit those steps. The way the angle of the light hits specific steps makes it look like attention is needed in that portion. I can imagine two actors sitting there during a scene the way the light contrasts with the dark of the background. Although, it may seem a bit creepy because of the dark basement I believe this is a beautiful piece of lighting that was completely accidental.

Week 14 Lighting Blog  Final entry for Lighting blog.   🎉 📷 🎭 The shadows that were cast by the Sun against the red bricks of the Luckman Fine Arts and my friend Christy were very warm and welcoming. After lighting rehearsal for the Spring Dance Concert, the natural light from the Sun outside was peaceful especially after being inside the cold theater for almost four hours. I had this sense of peace, hope, and power when I saw the striking angles of the light and shadows. What was really moving was the power of the Sun's warm light. With this upcoming week being my last dance concert as an undergrad and with commencement in less than 15 days, I felt trust in the Sun's warmth. Trust in the process of what is to come in this next chapter of my life.  😍❤️💛💙 I would like to extend my gratitude and appreciation in this post to this class and for everyone's posts and lighting designs in class. Reading the blogs were inspiring for me to view light differentl...

Kane Eddington week 14

Image
The other day I was walking out of the theatre building when I noticed this large ray of light being formed by the walkway roof thing. At first I though it was just spots where there weren’t any shadows on the wall but it was just light being cut by the ceiling. Looking at this picture it reminds me of the shutters on certain lights since it is used to cut and shape light. This picture for some reason is really relaxing to me since it is so pure and crisp warm light.

Rosalie Dierking Lighting Blog Week #14

While doing the lights for The Unseen Hand, I had to crawl underneath the trap door to turn off the fog machine. The fence above me was letting the light in through the cracks and the leftover fog allowed these curtains of light to form. You can kind of see it in this photo, but it's definitely not as obvious as it is in person. Because of the different lights that were shining on it, multiple versions of this effect were created in different colors and intensities. I'm very fascinated by the amount of possibilities haze creates! The dimension that it can create brings a whole new meaning to adding shape to things :) -Rosie

Dane gbrayes light blog week #14

This image was taken in a hallway at union station. The light comes from incandescent bulbs and a security cart. the light from the bulb reminded me of a downlight fresnel with a feather edge because it lacks a defined beginning and end while creating little pools of light all along the Hallway. The headlights of the cart reminded me of pars because of the bright lanes of light that are distinct and powerful.

Patrick M. Kong Lighting Week #14

For the last lighting blog of the semester, I decided to upload something special for the occasion. I picked this picture because of the way the light shines through the cracks which creates a curtain style of light. I love the brushstroke of this picture since it gives the heavenly feel to it. The ominous swirls in the light itself is actually the after effect of fog. This picture was taken by me under the fallen fence trap from The Unseen Hand. A lot of you probably don't know, but if you went to watch the show, the "magic" that happens with the actors' entrances is due to my actions. Also I love the bright blue light in this picture, it gives reminds me of my nostalgic past. Which ties into Sycamore's entrance coming from "hell" right after this picture.

JESUS CAMBERO-ELIAS POST WEEK 14

Image
I know that there have been lots of posts that partake in gobos, but I thought this one was interesting. There are various reasons. First, the reason is because of the texture of the garage door that gives it more depth. Also, the basketball rim shadow helps give more than just the leaves. This was taken in my backyard and I would constantly play basketball as a kid. When I was young, I would constantly play at night and imagine my backyard as a stage. The lamp would turn on and we would have these shadows happen. It would be so dramatic, theatrical, and nostalgic all at once. It made me feel like a kid again when I saw this as I was throwing away the trash. Hope this brings yall joy :)

Thalia Hendrick Week 14

For my last blog I decided to choose something more close to home. I have always had a fascination for nature and have always loved seeing blooms from outside my window. This picture was taken last week when I was home writing a paper. I noticed that the sun was setting and a beautiful golden wash was placed over a rose bush I had outside. Since the curtains inside my home were closed, there was no light being let into the room. I thought this image in particular was beautiful because of the contrast of light and darkness in the image. Although there is no light inside the room, it is still being bounced off of the brick wall and other things outside to illuminate part of the doorway and curtain. The blue sky is a beautiful gradient of blue and adds liveliness to the image. I also thought the red of the roses added character to the golden amber and greens in the picture. It brings out such softness when the light from the sunset is very harsh.  Entirely, I loved this image for ev...

Luis N. Week 14

Image
For my final blog post I decided to go with a picture I took of a friend for one my photo-shoot gigs. I really like the source of light that that is coming from outside environment creating shadows on her and giving her a nice definition on her body as the light highlights her nicely.  This picture also has a nice warmness to it since the rest of the room is not lit as much is has a nice amber feeling to it. This picture really feels like that of the plot we have in class where in which we have the PAR in the back creating a shadow figure and that is what the door and the source of light does in this picture giving it this nice effect. What also interest me in this picture is that the focus is mainly on her and isolating her from the rest of the room making it so that the focus is on her and not on the other objects that are present in the room.

Risa Kurosaki Week 14

I took this photo on my way to my meal break last weekend during a concert I was working. I remember just looking over the crowd in the pit and I saw how gorgeous the sun was, and how the quality of light changed as more and more people crowded the beach, kicking up sand and diffusing the sunlight. It back lights the rockstar who is being lifted in the air by fans in the audience, and it really makes him look heroic and messiah-like. The kicked up sand and the setting sun makes this wonderful amber color that gives this a look like an old polaroid.
