Rosalie Dierking Week 10


When driving a few days ago, I noticed the lighting in the car to be particularly nice. Since it was cloudy that day, the sunlight that made it through the white clouds made the light in the car colder than it typically would be. My arm is backlit nicely and I find the way my scrunchie is lit to be particularly calming and pleasant. I really like the softness of all of the shadows in this picture. While it's not incredibly bright, everything in the photo is still visible. Simple, but surprisingly breathtaking!

    I can see like a Lavender glow on the steering wheel, and then the arm has those colors with the band and the shirt as well. The muted greens outside the windshield pair well and it makes a very soft and serene composition.

    I totally understand what you are referencing and it is a very lovely picture. I do like the coldness it brings, it definitely shows a different mood and adds a nice affect to that of the tone of your skin and how it is lit. Very nice picture!

    Has a very calming/serene quality to it! That soft, filtered sunlight through all of those clouds, beautiful!! Love that bright sun! Hopefully you were safe in getting this picture ;)

The other day I went to a concert at LA Live in downtown and when I went to use the bathroom in one of the nearby hotels, I had to go through this hallway. I was taken aback by how simple and elegant the lighting was. The way the white marble flooring reflects the geometric lights is really gorgeous! I love the choice of warm colors they made and how it make the room feel very cozy despite geometric designs typically making architectural lighting feel more harsh and uninviting (compared to other softer lighting choices). My favorite part of this whole hallway is how they managed to light it in a way that draws your eyes to the painting at the end which helps make it the focus piece of the room. -Rosie

Thalia Hendrick Week 14

For my last blog I decided to choose something more close to home. I have always had a fascination for nature and have always loved seeing blooms from outside my window. This picture was taken last week when I was home writing a paper. I noticed that the sun was setting and a beautiful golden wash was placed over a rose bush I had outside. Since the curtains inside my home were closed, there was no light being let into the room. I thought this image in particular was beautiful because of the contrast of light and darkness in the image. Although there is no light inside the room, it is still being bounced off of the brick wall and other things outside to illuminate part of the doorway and curtain. The blue sky is a beautiful gradient of blue and adds liveliness to the image. I also thought the red of the roses added character to the golden amber and greens in the picture. Arturo Gonzalez Week 6

Week 6 This week's photo was a picture taken of my car dashboard. I was sitting in my car parked underneath a light as I was about to go into work. I found the combination of colors from where I was reclined very interesting. On the inside there was different Amber glows made by the light coming from above. Outside it was sunset, the sky had a blue ombre color that went from dark to light. The thing that came to my mind when I first saw this was the picture projects and how these saturated colors resembled that of the gels on the lighting fixtures in class and how it would look to replicate on stage. It is also interesting how this combination of natural light with  artificial light blended so beautifully. This moment was unique because it described a specific time of day seen in the shadows and light. It would have been something entirely different at a different time of day or different location.
