Christina A. Week 6 Post

I took this photo in a post office in Pasadena  and I loved the very vintage look of the whole room.   The lighting in this room if I am being honest at first glance is pretty dull. As I started to look deeper at this image I found myself intrigued by the lights. The top lights coming from the right side ceiling come in from  a crevice. Creating a path for it to pass through. I really like how its so dominant creating a type of angelic opening on one side but a contrasting dark side on the left ceiling. I find this lighting to fit the day perfectly as it was gloomy and dark outside, but the sun had been out for an instant. I would use this type of lighting to create a glow around a piece of scenery in a production. I also really find it nice how the light reflects very nicely on the semi glossy floor. I think it is a cool effect that is found a lot in any kind of lighting. The brightness of the reflection practically changes the color f that section of floor. The lighting also helps elongate the hallway making it seem longer than it actually is. It is elongated because of the contrasting form of dark and bright. I was pleasantly surprised to find lighting that I enjoyed in what is usually a dull place.

  1. Super interesting! It feels like the lighting is so modern! So cold, florescent and linear when the room is so rich and vintage with warm woods. I like the effect they were trying to go for, though maybe some lights on the left side are out? can't quite tell if the effect was supposed to go all the way around the ceiling or not. It's functional and definitely reflects off that glossy floor! Nice!
